What Is a Ductless Mini-Split?

A ductless mini-split is a type of air handler with one main difference – it doesn’t require the use of ductwork to distribute conditioned air across homes. Instead, it uses an outdoor compressor/condenser unit and one or more indoor air handling units that are typically installed on ceilings or walls to distribute heating and cooling into your living areas.

When connected to an air-source heat pump, ductless systems move heat inside and outside of the home depending on the season. During the warmer months, they operate just like an air conditioner by removing warm air indoors and distributing it outside to provide cooling. They work oppositely during the winter by using a refrigerant to extract warm air from outside and distributing it indoors.
